This is our most popular English course, designed for all levels. General English (GE) is a fun, interactive class which prepares you to use English in the real world. At AIEL you will learn how to communicate with native English speakers by improving your speaking, listening and pronunciation.
This course is an ideal way to develop your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills for everyday use. Choose between Standard and Intensive programs to improve your general English language proficiency for employment, higher education or travel purposes.
Classes are available at five levels graded from Elementary to Advanced, with each cycle lasting 12 weeks.
This is for students wishing to improve their basic English skills, they may come for a holiday or to improve their English to help job prospects in their own country.
Many use General English as a pathway to IELTS or English for Academic Purposes (EAP).
- Students must be 18 years of age or over.
- Students are required to have Elementary English language level or above.
- Students must be on a Student, Working Holiday or Tourist visa.
GE is offered at five levels – GE level 1 for Elementary up to GE level 5 for Advanced.

Course Mode of Delivery and Duration
- Face-to-face classroom full-time 20 hours per week.
- 12 weeks per course level – Up to 64 weeks.
Full-time $330 per week (includes a $250 non-refundable application fee)

You will learn via class activities through a mix of individual and small group work.
Students are awarded a certificate showing their English level.
This qualification has pathways for further study in:
- Option 1: GE + English for Academic Purposes (EAP) = Study Vocational Qualifications
- Option 2: GE + IELTS Preparation + Test = Study at University
- Option 3: GE + Certificate IV = Employment Outcome

How to Enrol
Applying to Australian Institute of English Language (AIEL) is easy. You can submit your enrolment application any time at aiel.edu.au/enrol. You can call the Gold Coast Campus on +61 1300 656 693 or the Sydney Campus on +61 1300 083 832.
We will send you a Letter of Offer including all the enrolment conditions. When you accept it and return a signed copy and confirmation of payment, we will secure your place in your chosen course. You can pay your fees by electronic bank transfer or credit card. Your Letter of Offer will include information about exact amounts due and when you can pay them.
AIEL will send you an Acceptance Letter confirming your course place together with information about your Orientation Day at your chosen campus (what time you need to arrive and what you need to bring). If you are applying for a student visa, AIEL will also send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) so you can apply for a visa at your closest Australian Immigration Office.
